Hawks Sign First Round Selections Childress And Smith

ATLANTA, GA (July 12, 2004) ----- The Atlanta Hawks have signed their two first round picks, Josh Childress and Josh Smith, it was announced this afternoon by General Manager Billy Knight. Per club policy, terms of the contracts were not released.
Childress, selected sixth overall in the 2004 NBA Draft, was the first-ever Stanford player named Pac-10 Player of the Year and he also garnered first team All-America honors from the Associated Press, Sports Illustrated, Basketball Times, the National Association of Basketball Coaches and FoxSports.com. Childress averaged 15.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and led the Cardinal in blocked shots.
Smith played this past season at Oak Hill Academy in Virginia where he averaged 25.8 ppg, 7.4 rpg, 6.0 bpg and 3.0 steals en route to leading Oak Hill to a 38-0 finish and #1 ranking nationally. A student at Powder Springs, GA's McEachern High before transferring to Oak Hill, Smith was a member of the 2004 McDonald's All-America and PARADE Magazine's All-America squads.
