Hawks to Start 2004 Pre-Draft Workouts on Tuesday

ATLANTA, GA ----- The Atlanta Hawks are gearing up for the first of several one-hour workouts in preparation for NBA Draft 2004 on the Philips Arena practice court this Tuesday (May 18) at 10 a.m., according to General Manager Billy Knight.

Among the players scheduled to arrive first are swingman Michael Haynes of Fordham University, Rutgers’ Herve Lamizana, forward James Moore of New Mexico State and Croatian forward Damir Omerhodzic.
A third team All-Atlantic 10 selection, Haynes (6-8, 205) played both guard and forward positions for the Rams, posted career highs in points (18.6 ppg) and rebounds (7.4 rpg), and finished among the top ten leaders in the conference in scoring (5th) and rebounding (8th), only one of two players to accomplish that in the A-10.

    The 6-10 Lamizana hails from the Ivory Coast area of Africa and he moved to the United States in 1997, prior to his sophomore season in high school. Rated as one of the nation’s top players after his senior year of prep play, he spent three years with the Scarlet Knights and recorded 10.2 points and 5.8 boards in 84 games. A premier shot-blocker throughout his career, Lamizana rejected 3.1 shots last season to finish eighth in the nation and concluded his Rutgers’ days as the school’s third all-time leader with 246. He was a third-team All-Big East pick in 2003-04.

    league’s reigning Player of the Year after leading the Aggies with 18.8 points and 6.5 rebounds. A 6-8, 210 senior who earned All-Sun Belt honors for the second straight year, he was also selected the conference’s top freshman performer in 2000-01.

Two seasons ago, Omerhodzic averaged 14.2 points in 18 games.

Media advisories will be released with the expected participation lists no later than the day prior to each scheduled pre-draft session.
    With five picks in the upcoming 2004 NBA Draft (June 24), Atlanta will also have 104 opportunities to gain the first, second or third pick in the Draft if the Hawks are successful in next week’s Draft Lottery in Secaucus, New Jersey. The lottery will be televised Wednesday, May 26 on ESPN at 7 p.m.
