Workout:June 2

ATLANTA, June 1 -- Four talented big men - three forwards and one center - are next up this Wednesday as the Atlanta Hawks conduct pre-draft workouts at 10 a.m. on the Philips Arena practice court. LSU freshman Brandon Bass, Arkansas high schooler Al Jefferson, Brazilian shot blocker Anderson Varejao and Serbian center Peja Samardziski are scheduled to participate.

In one season at LSU, the 6-8 Bass started in all 29 games for the 18-11 Tigers, averaging 12.8 points per outing and shooting 50.4 percent from the field. The Southeastern Conference's Freshman of the Year, Bass was the top rookie scorer and rebounder in the league after a stellar high school career at Baton Rouge's Capitol High, earning McDonald's, Parade Magazine and adidas All-American honors in the process.

Al Jefferson
A muscular 6-9 power forward from Prentiss (MS) High, Jefferson signed to play college ball at the University of Arkansas before declaring for the draft as an early-entry candidate. He produced outstanding stats as a prep star, averaging 33.2 points and 15.2 rebounds in four years at Prentiss, with a staggering 42.6 ppg coming in 37 games as a senior. Jefferson had 17 points and 10 rebounds in the Jordan Capital Classic in Washington, D.C.

Anderson Varejao
Varejao has entered the past two NBA drafts, but has withdrawn his name at the last minute. The 6-10, 230 forward grew up with the Franca junior basketball club in Brazil and made his debut during the 2000-01 season. He moved to Spain in January 2002 and was signed by F.C. Barcelona, where he has played the last three years. In 2003-04, Varejao totaled 7.7 points and 5.0 rebounds. During the Olympic qualifying tournament last summer in Puerto Rico he scored 16 points in a 110-76 Brazilian loss to the United States.

Peja Samardziski
The 18-year-old Samardziski (7-0, 260) hails from Skopje, Macedonia and he has played on several international squads, most recently the Partizan Belgrade junior team in Yugoslavia. A team member since 2000, he has been considered one of the most talented players of his age in Europe.
